The worst of us

I think there is something to be said for the notion that the very worst base-impulses of the right-wing and hell a great number of xenophobes and bigots of all stripes were probably kept in check when Bush Jr. was President, him being a white child of a powerful white father.

In fact...

'Ground Zero Mosque' Imam Was A Bush-Era Partner For Mideast Peace

I have to say though, that though this story reflects the baseness of the bigots, the headline doesn't help.

It isn't a "Mosque" and it isn't on "Ground Zero" -- its essentially a Muslim YMCA in an abandoned Burlington Coat factory two blocks away.

Things you'll never hear on FoxNews...or other cable news outlets for that matter.

"Things you'll never hear on FoxNews ..."

1. "We reported a story before the full facts came to light."

2. "This is a correction of our earlier story."

3. "Here, to present the opposing view, is ..."

4. "Please wait your turn to speak."

5. "We apologize for our error."

t. hartmann's sub also took issue with media's emphasis of calling the center a mosque. said that would be like calling the YMCA a church.

still blows my mind that bush won the muslim vote in 2000, because they relied on his promise to abolish secret evidence. talk about payback being a bitch.

The two decent things Bush did was to prevent Cheney from attacking Iran and refusing to scapegoat all Muslims.

another thing, so galling that all these hysterical cons who are yet once again exploiting 9/11 in their feinged outrage in opposing the building of the center - are the same assholes who voted to deny funding for 9/11 first responders' freaking healthcare.

remind people that next time you hear some jerk argue dems are unamerican.

I am coming to the conclusion that the terrorists did win on 9/11. The spirit of 9/11 is now apparently to seek to resolve disputes exactly as we would have on 9/12. The Republicans have also won, since they have succeeded in making 9/11 a wedge issue.

I would only note that in Manhattan itself, the issue is viewed as a legal one, not a political one. In the city council district where Ground Zero is located, there is very little opposition to the certain at Park51.
