TLC is the television channel formerly known as "The Learning Channel."
It used to be a cable-tv, commercially supported PBS-style channel, full of documentaries and do-it-yourself home improvement shows.
Sometime in the 90s they decided that that wasn't paying the bills and they shifted to a reality-tv model. I think their most famous shows are the one about the Duggar family with 20 kids and that other one about the family with 8 kids.
AFAIK the stupider their programming has gotten, the more their ratings have climbed.
