Being punished for highly edited statements

Is for the little people, and Democrats, especially black Democrats like Shirley Sherrod or Van Jones.

But an old white guy from a true 'murican state like Wyoming?

What's the problem?

Behold the latest nugget from Alan Simpson:

All those Iraq war vets had better shape up or ship out too. We can’t afford to keep supporting people with brain injuries and lost limbs forever. Get a job or be a man and relieve us of the burden of your care. (Oh right, there are no jobs. Well then I guess the decision’s been made, hasn’t it?)

Seriously, if poor, old, and sick people across the board would just do the right thing and die, we could reform the hell out all the “entitlements.” Their selfishness is really brings down the country.

Seriously, it took the Administration like 3.3 seconds to fire Sherrod over something she didn't actually say, yet Alan Simpson gets a free pass from them...and everyone else in the village.

Oh, this is so sweet. Why does Alan Simpson hate our troops?

I get a bunch of those emails blaming Democrats for everything, and saying how it would be so much better if the Repukes were running everything according to Sweet Buttery Jesus's 10-Commandments. I used to ignore them; now, I respond with a "Reply-All", and not nicely, to every one of them.

Have you seen the one titled: "Obama says Veterans are whiners?"

I responded to this one as recently as 49-days ago and saved it. Today I'm going to do a second Reply-All, with the subject "Fuck you - part 2" and add this story and ask when I should expect to receive the email blasting the Repiglicans for not "Supporting our troops!" And, of course, add the prefunctory: "Please pass this on to everyone, especially veterans ...."

A.J.

PS: I have never heard back from anyone that sent me one of those bogus emails with an answer to my question: I have yet to receive one of these emails that targeted Bush or the Rethuglicans - why? Why are these LIES exclusively aimed at Democrats?

Must be getting down to the nitty-gritty guts and gore of political corruption. History no longer exists or has coherent meaning; Heritage is plastic, manufactured from propaganda; political discourse is illusionary; speech allowed on limited politically correct terms otherwise not heard; opinion is sovereign, facts have the standing fantasy once held; Madness is the order of the day, Lies are the lingua franca, Paralysis rules.
Those who worship a flag, would deify a rag.
For those who would style themselves sovereign, it is necessary to have the training and ability of princes to conduct the affairs of state. A republic requires no less than any principality. When a prince becomes mad, there are others to take all from them, a republic is also no different. The apparent choice of the republic is for madness, so goes the republic.

Simpson should stay out of the sun. He's got no hair to protect him from the sun's rays, and his brain is frying.

I believe your quote is a interpretation of simpson written by digby.

Anonymous above is right - this is Digby's take on Simpson's quote. Simpson's quote is actually:

"The irony (is) that the veterans who saved this country are now, in a way, not helping us to save the country in this fiscal mess," said Simpson, an Army veteran who was once chairman of the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee.

He's a cruel heartless asshole, but he hasn't yet gotten to the true senility that the analysis that digby provided would yet cross his lips.

Give him a few years though - I'm sure he'll get to it. Simpson gets more vile every year - and considering where he started from that's quite an accomplishment.

Note that I haven't heard yet whether Simpson has decided to donate his own Congressional pension - and those of his fellow Congressmen - to paying off the deficit. I wonder if he's willing to give up his particular suckle at the government tit or if that's somehow "different".

So,.... in other words digby lied about or misrepresented what the other asshole said.

obama needs to be primaried, even if it only amounts to a symbolic gesture. something needs to be done to wake him up and stop taking us for granted.

no, it wouldn't mean an automatic win for republicans in 2012. this isn't 1980.

Like pansypoo says, the best thing Obama can do for progressives is let the rabid, spiitle-flecked old man rant away and make an ass of himself and Republicans in general, and discredit the Katfood Kommission. So my money's on the Oster firing him this week.

and violate his vaunted motif of bipartisanship? aka, swallowing rightwing lunacy without complaint or objection.

yes, simpson is a republican, but because he was obama's handpick choice for appointee, unless obama distances himself from him and actually registers (gasp) disaproval, the right is going to play guilt by association and suggest this is obama's views too.

what indication is there that obama is even thinking about firing simpson?
