Good job. Your pledge is my pledge.

I may or may not be dependent on SS by the time I "retire" but regardless, I think that it's a program that strengthens the nation and binds generations. Besides, it already helped keep a single mother* that I was very fond of out of dire poverty**.

*unforseen death of the father.
**thanks mom for the roof and the food.

Remember this is pre-election talk. Things may change if the Dems have a big loss in Nov. The catfood commission's recommendations don't come out until Dec.

now they have to kill tax cuts for the top 10%.

jimmiraybob - this is an aspect of Social Security that many don't think about. I had good friends who were in the exact same situation you were in. Thanks to SSI, all six children grew up fed and their mother was able to give them the attention all kids need from a parent rather than working 24/7. Most went to college, all became productive, positive people in our society. The investment SSI made in their lives has been paid back ten fold - certainly fiscally but also in less tangible ways.

didn't the progressive caucus also vow not to pass a bill without a public option?

that'd be great if dems went on the offensive to protect ss and used it as a campaign issue. too bad steny hoyer blunted this approach by refusing to rule out raising the retirement age.
